I just had a good conversation with the good folks over at autobahn country club. It will cost approximately $3000 dollars to rent the 3 acre autocross area and a joining area to do a swap meets. We talked about renting the track that comes to around $10,000.

There were a couple packages that were per head that were all to much per person. $600+

So if we take the autocross section for the full day and take the area next to it. We will be set up for track time as well as swap meet area for the whole day (Saturday or Sunday). Problem is that’s about $150 a person at the moment. And we have to supply our own cones + course personal.

If we bump this number up to 40 people we can cut that in half ($75 a head), which I think would be number.

I’m thinking the better day of the weekend to rent is the Sunday (August 7) Let me know what you all think.

e: I’m confused by this bit:

So if we take the autocross section for the full day and take the area next to it. We will be set up for track time as well as swap meet area for the whole day (Saturday or Sunday).

When you say “track time” are you referring to autocross, or actual track time? There’s a big difference - $150 for a half-day on the track is going to be easy to fill. $150 for an autocross and swap meet is a tough, tough sell.

Anyway, what about people who aren’t interested in autocross or track time? Are you still expecting that they’d contribute the $___? Part of it? Anything?

I’d generally be down for both, but I won’t have a car to track. Not even sure I’ll want to autocross that far from home (in the Mini, presumably). So who knows what I’d be doing.

Just signed up on the faceballs. Looks like fun! Have you/others run an oppo autox before?

I'd say figure out a way to get non-profit people involved. That would bring the cost down. All the Porsche Club and BMWCCA track days and autocrosses are never exclusive to the clubs themselves.

Yeah, local clubs already have cones, timing equipment, etc. They also know how to actually run an event, in case nobody else does. :) Partner up with a local club (or two), let their people in to increase numbers and reduce costs, and go from there.

You could borrow my car, and I’m sure there are other people who’d be willing to do that.

Do what any person on the internet does, make cool shirts and a pitch on either Kickstarter or Indiegogo.
